POLITICAL MASTERBATION

Yep, you read it right. Here come the porn hits. But as slow as blogland is right now, a sexual reference is just what is needed to get the clicker moving. To me voting for a third party candidate is political masterbation. It really only satisfies one person. It feels good only to the person voting and usually one party or the other suffers from the deviant votes that have left the party. This is how I feel about those throwing their support toward third party candidates they know have no chance of winning in the general election. Your vote is swimming down a river leading to no where. You are so difficult to please that you insist on putting out a candidate that represents you more fully. Perhaps this country needs more parties to choose from...but until a consensus is established have fun satisfying yourself. Maybe someday your fringe candidate will make their way to a more moderate approach like the rest of America. We have an extreme candidate, his name is Barack Obama.

I agree. I know people like to vote for third parties just to make a point - so, whooppee ! you made your point. Now do something useful.

By the way, when I first saw that photo I thought it was Roseanne Barr running for President!

Nikki, I agree that voting for a third party candidate for president is fairly useless at this time. Our country is mired in the two-party system that is perpetuated by (who else?) the two major parties.

Voting for third-party candidates in other races, though, is not a waste. At the local level or the state level, or even for Congress or the Senate, they actually could make a difference. The idea is to build support bit by bit until something big can happen.

In the 2006 gubernatorial election in Illinois, the Green Party candidate got 10% of the vote, which was a long way from winning, but it did surpass the minimum required to establish the GP as a legitimate party in the state, so now they can run a full slate of candidates without having to jump through so many hoops. So this fall there are more Greens running in more races across the state. Will there come a time when Illinois is run by the Greens? Not likely, but the more of them that get into office, the more they can start to influence policy decisions (for the better, ideally.)

Sandi, lol about Roseanne Barr! A vote for her would be the same...let's plug a vote for Roseanne at least we would get some comedy relief, very little I might add. :)N

BA, Super Dell is such an idiot. This should get pretty interesting now that the losertarian party has chosen such an upstanding citizen...just a felony and some drug use. that's all. loser. :)N

Mike, too bad we agree on this, there really is nothing to battle over at the moment. I see your point that these parties can grow at the state level and progress from there. Does it scare you that the constitution party is kicking out some eggs...that party is scarier than the green...I think the green party might have to change their name. People might think it is a party for the green movement or for the insanely horny. either way you'll get some peeps...hehehe. :)N

Nikki, Nicole!!! Thanks for all your kind words on my blog! Sure have been missing a lot since I've been away. As for 3rd party candidates.....they are invisble to me....does that mean they don't count?

Chatti Patti, glad you are back and I hope things are going better for you. Yes the invisibilty factor does mean they don't count...haha :)N

I actually believed the democratic party would be extinct by now considering it's so out of touch with the mainstream. And that that the 2 new parties would be liberal republicans and conservative republicans.

Oops. For some reason the same comment was triplified there.

Freadom, I agree the dems are out of touch...I do think the republican party is looking a bit fractured itself. But you are right, the further left the dems go the worse off they will be. :)N

Freadom, the Dems are out of touch? Is that why they're winning elections in formerly safe Republican districts?

Voting a 3rd party is going to get us Obama and hell for 4 years... go for it. then i can tell them, i told you so..

incognito...perhaps both ends of the political spectrum will offer their own candidates...Barr on the right and a green candidate from the left. I do think it is a waste and pretty self-absorbed. thanks for the comment!
