THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE: AN INFRINGEMENT ON FREE SPEECH

While I do enjoy beating the homeschooling dead horse to a bloody freaking pulp, I do like to discuss other matters regarding this nation that is being hijacked by crazy left-winged people who think speech is pornography and opinion is NOT. According to Rasmussen, 47% of Americans think the government should require, yes I said REQUIRE, "all radio and television stations to offer equal amounts of conservative and liberal political commentary, but they draw the line at imposing that same requirement on the Internet." Though, the slippery slope argument definitely applies here. I mean WTF. Who are these Americans? I can only assume they are Obama supporters. Yes the are, 58% to be exact. What is it about the donkeys that they need everything "fair". Rich people are unfair to poor people. White people are unfair to black people. Corporations are unfair to blue collar workers. Trans fats are unfair to my ass. George Bush is unfair to terrorists. People are starving in Africa and that is UNFAIR. Organically speaking, you are all a bunch of freaking whiners. (Though I do have to admit there are some pretty big freaking conservative homeschooling whiners. Just a side note.) Democrats are the ones pushing the measure and I can only assume that the ACLU will have something to say about this one...I guess I just made an ass out of you and me with that assumption. How did we get here? When did we decide equality meant "fair" EVERYTHING! Personal responsibility is gone. Now we make our government do our tattle telling bidding for us. Make him be nice to me, make her hire me, he makes more money than me...FIX IT DADDY! This is an infringement of MY right to FREE SPEECH and the liberal media's for that matter. Get a freaking grip people! Sorry I don't want to have to listen to 5 differing opinions on any given subject. I can handle the work. Who is going to be in charge of making sure the fairness is fair and accurate. Do we need 3 deep consultants to make sure all the points of view are portrayed correctly? UUMM, you said that a little sarcastically so could you please just stick to monotone speaking, thank you. And now to Jim for the libertarian view about dogs and the cloning of them and stem cell research. Next, a word from the unabomber and why he thinks the government should just effing blow themselves up and NOT help the housing market. Please stay tuned for the next 36-150 hours as we now have to represent every possible view on universal health care, domestic drilling and terrorism. Tomorrow we will be covering homeschooling and that will be for the next 6 months of programing. Thank you and have a nice day! HA! You know its coming people.

Holy Crap! Last time I checked the home schooling bit was only at 64 comments... I guess some people missed the lesson from their mothers that life isn't fair. And apparently while their mothers where avoiding this lesson they were busy doing everything else for the kids. Wait I think I'm onto something my problems are acutally my mothers fault... ;)

I am with Marci. WOW! You really set off some people about home schooling! On this, I think that 47% want it is because they do not realize that the "fairness doctrine" is not all that fair. It SOUNDS good, but the reality is that the Dinosaur, Drive-By, Mainstream, Obama-Worshiping Media already have control of the 3 networks, most newspapers, the 3 newsweekly magazines, and are even subsidized with PBS and NPR. Thus, I am not surprised that there are only 47% that want it. We have a real tough job on this one.

And that's why radios were created with an on/off button, volume buttons, and channel changing buttons. Do some people not know that?!?!? Who cares what they say on the radio or tv. I'm in TOTAL control of what I have to hear! Now that's fair.

I'm an Obama supporter and I gotta tell you. I don't like this one bit. Say what you want to say. Who cares about fairness?

The fairness doctrine is a load of crap and the sole reason anyone supports it is because of the pleasant sounding name. How could you note vote for the "Fairness" Doctrine? Anyone who does or even supports this is an idiot. Typical partisan politics too, like the "Patriot" Act. Name it nice, and no one is the wiser. Dems are idiots on this one.

Another thing, Dems think that having ignorant people like Michael Savage on the air is giving an "unfair" advantage to conservative view points, but it is only making those points look ridiculous. Too bad the Dems are complete morons and can't see this. If this passes, I will be [more] ashamed of our Congress. This is embarrassing.

How's that from the token liberal? lol

Hey Butta! great to hear from you...I am glad to hear that you are part of the 42% that thinks this sucks...its a no brainer. Say your piece fair or not its your right...:)N

DB, I knew we would be on the same page on this. Not all libs are in this camp, especially the sane ones haha. I agree about the Michael Savage listening peeps. I suppose the same could be said about Al Franken listeners or readers of the daily kos...people are influenced on both sides and they have gullible issues. :)N

Absolutely! nothing is fair... you gotta fight for what you want.. that's what makes this country great, because you can get it of you try hard enough. People need to grow up and realize their dad (government) isn't going to fight all their battles for them.

Great post, Nikki!
As Righty said, people are captivated by the name, but the "fairness doctrine" is nothing more than an attack on free speech and the free market.

If the people thought talk radio was unfair, then Rush Limbaugh wouldn't have the highest rated program ever. Give a liberal the mike, and nobody listens and no money is made becaues if people want to hear the liberal version of the news all they have to do is pick up the newspaper or click on the evening news. It may not be fair that the New York Times is biased to the left, but that's their God given freedom to be biased. Life isn't fiar, and it will never be. So lets just get over this idea of trying to stop people we don't agree with from speaking. It's undemocratic, selfish, and stupid.

Great post.

Hot damn! I'm so sick of this "equality" crap. Websters need to change the definition! I deal with this word on an hourly basis! I can write a book on all the circumstances and replies! Don't get me started!

In "Nightmare Years" CBS Deutschland correspondent William Shire says that despotic laws were enacted a little at a time - no one saw the big pic until a law hit them personally - by then it was too late.

In a way, it could be said that inching towards any control of fun and free choice is a lot like that.

I r64. Most people who answered probably didn't know what the Fairness Doctrine really is. I'm all for fair and equal opportunity, but forcing something like this (equal actuality vs. equal opportunity) seems rather foolish (especially in the enforcement of it).

Also, people shouldn't complain so much about media bias (on either side). There is so much freedom in the medium right now that we can get whatever news we want from a million different sources. Of course, an echo chamber doesn't do us any good either, so its up to us to monitor our sources.
