On Palin

I like Sarah Palin but I am not going to go so far as to say she is more experienced than Obama like some on the right have. I will say Obama is no more experienced than her in some areas. I think she has been handled completely wrong by the McCain people. Shove her out in the lime light and let her be who she is. She is not the Obama "Alex Trebek" pronouncer of fancy foreign names, and we should stop saying that she is more experienced than Obama it may be true, it may not, but it puts the media in a position to fire away stupid questions like the "Bush Doctrine" one. The average American has no idea what the Bush Doctrine is, and we all know Charles got it wrong and Obama basically regurgitates it when spewing his ever changing foreign policy. Only his FP does not embrace the Bush Doctrine because he will be better at it. Its the same but its different because its him. The Obama Doctrine.
So to me it is time for the McCain camp to portray Sarah Palin for who she is and not for who the media wants her to be...a Harvard mouthed intellectual with polished foreign policy pronunciation.
She was tapped for her experience in drilling and energy, and her peppy fiscal policies. If you make her into something she is not she and McCain will lose. If you let her be who she is...a down home girl who will shake things up, then they will win. This tactic of making her out to be experienced in foreign relations is ridiculous. McCain is the foreign policy strong hold. Let Sarah be the fresh new conservative. This pretense just makes the media rabid pit bulls ready to attack. I think the McCain camp should start touting Sarah as the energy expert. The ship will sink if this "total package" nonsense continues. She has had no reason to be concerned with the foreign arena as a governor and to act otherwise is foolish politics.
The American people can see through the Katie Couric and Campbell Brown crap of "Do you have a passport? Why haven't you ever had one before now?" Seriously go tongue yourselves. The arrogance of the media is troubling. Troubling because it sets a precedence that they are more intelligent than you or I. This is not the case. They are more left than most, but that is it. Let's give Sarah some room to grow without the pressure of having to compete with the Washington established rhetorical elite. Let's let her be Sarah. Take the foreign policy pressure off. McCain needs to stand up and say LOOK she was not tapped for foreign affairs, she was tapped for other things. Biden was tapped for his experience...an area of weakness for Obama. Let's not paint a picture that is not there. The American people don't care if Palin can say "TaleeebON" "POckIstON" "AfGONistON" "IROCK" properly...we want her to get us some good solid energy policy and tackle spending! McCain can handle the FP.
Now, please stop calling her a step away from the Presidency, So is Biden and that scares me worse. Besides Obama could have a stroke at anytime too, the obituaries are full of young hopefuls dead from strokes. So shut it about McCain being the walking dead.
Its time to portray Sarah as she is...not strong on FP, but strong on energy and strong on conservative values! She doesn't need to be the professor of the Mid East, she just needs to kick their ASS!

One interesting perspective, when asked "why" Sarah Palin didn't appear (along with Biden) in the post-debate analyses, a McCain staffer said, "We can understand why Obama would need to have Biden appear on camera to shore up his campaign. McCain doesn't need to do that."

But I agree with you that the handlers should "let her loose." But here is one problem Palin has, and I've written her an email about that ... "Learn when to stop talking." Saying too much will hang a politician faster than not saying enough.

Any moment now, I'll receive an invitation to join the campaign as a consultant. NOT.

Mustang, I think you should be on the consulting committee! She is so nervous she is going to say the wrong thing, she ends up repeating herself and saying the same thing over and over...say it once and if asked the question again only more forcefully, forcefully say I believe I have answered the question. I am waiting for my call too....haha :)N

I ahve been saying all along, she's the secret weapon, use her. I don't think it matters much if she isn't polished.

-She can't be as much of an idiot as Biden has been over the last week.

-Her appeal is that she is like us, not polished, not perfect, small town America.

They need to get her back out soon, she is losing her appeal because the media is defining her.

Couldn't agree more, Nikki. They need to let Palin be Palin and not worry about their talking points so much. I mean, it's not as though she's going to ask a guy in a wheelchair to stand up and take a bow, ala Joe Biden.

I say let Sarah be Sarah. Unleash her and let her go. I guess they are waiting until after the debate. And, really, she can't be worse than Biden - the gaffe-o-matic VP Candidate.

But doesn't it scare any of you that she could be President if McCain bites it! Scares the hell out of me. She may be smart, cute, spunky, whatever - but she is not qualified to be President. She would probably make a great cabinet member, or even a fine Senator - but NOT President.

Sarah's actually got more expertise in executive positions than Senator Obama - as a gov - you can't really vote 'present' or do the hopful change dance. Ya gotta make decisions - thus by default her game is far more potent than his.

Sarah's qualifications are about the same as Teddy Roosevelt's.

she would do just fine as pres. Her advisors would most likely be the cats grooming her now and they are SwEeT!

Right, it's the fact that Obama could become President if the voters bite it that scares the hell out of me. At least Palin has run something in her life (like a commission, a city and a state). What exactly has Obama ever run? In fact, what exactly did Obama do in his 140 days in the senate? And he's the #1 on the Dem side. It's insanity.

Obama's accomplishments are many. For starters:
1.
2.
3.
4.

And then, he also

5.
6.
7.

Is that enough for now?

This woman is afraid of the media, so how can she handle the presidency?

I am loving this Palin pick. Absolutely I am. It gets better each new day. :-D

To be honest though, McCain is wasting his pick. Why is she being kept out of the spotlight? Why isn't she allowed to be the bulldog (or was it a pig?)? Was it necessary to sell her as the complete package? All she is doing now is trying to live up to that hype when that is clearly not her. She brings to the table what McCain can't, and the McCain campaign is making her sit at the kiddie table instead. His strategy (or is it a 'tactic'?) is a bit off...

You say, "Let Sarah be the fresh new conservative."

Gotta laugh on that one, Nik!

My statement to you:
"Let Obama be the fresh new liberal."

Uh, huh...
Uh, huh.....

Do as I say, not as I do????

Actually, I am starting to think that there is actually a real good reason for the McCain camp trying to keep Palin out of the public eye. Any of you actually watching these Couric interviews?

Coby said...

I think I prefer Tina Fey's rendition of Palin better than Palin herself!

I watched the Couric/Palen interview the other day and I have ti admit I was not impressed with all of her answers.

I thought the questions were fair, but my only complaint was that they don't ask Obama/Biden the same ones.

Would it really make a difference if they asked Obama a zinger like "what news sources do you read"? Obama gets his questions on Wright and and his views too. Palin isn't getting gotcha questions, she is giving gotcha answers.
