What if Obama were Muslim?

Campbell Brown(one of my least favorite commentators...bleh) wrote an interesting article on Obama, addressing critics who say that Obama is in fact a Muslim or was at some point in his life. Would this be a problem for any of you and if so, why?
Personally, I think his liberal Marxist ideals bother me the most. The fact that small businesses are going to have to raise their prices 15% to cover lower income family issues is stupid and socialistic, but being a Muslim a problem?
His involvement with ACORN is disturbing and all of his donations from abroad are questionable, but being a Muslim a problem? There is a lot to be disturbed by when it comes to Obama, but being a Muslim, should it be one of them?
Public enemy number one just so happens to be Islam in its extreme form, so why not question a man who is endorsed by Islamic terrorists and Muslim factions about his keeping his Muslim name? Is this not a problem? He isn't of Arab descent so why go by Barack Obama? His nationality isn't Middle Eastern. If he is indeed Christian why not change your name to a christian name? I think at the very least he is deceitful about his religious affiliation now or in the passed. Who cares if he is or was Muslim? I do...because he is lying, once again.

I wish I could say that it wouldn’t bother me if Barack Obama were a Muslim. It would. By definition, Islam and Democracy are mutually exclusive. But your concluding observation echoes my sentiments. Barack Obama has not been honest with the American people about anything. Not his associations, not his organizational affiliations, not his involvement in African politics, not his amazingly “centrist” position now, when compared to his extremely radical-leftist background. And even if none of the suppositions is true, it is still the sheer weight of these relationships that worries me. If we cannot trust Mr. Obama to be forthright about his background (and there is evidence that he has not), then can any of us trust what he tells us about his “vision for America?”

I guess is McCain was truly honest about his past dealings, marriages, etc. it would be more of an issue. Politicians lie. They gloss over the truth. I think it's a rule or something. McCain is certainly no saint - regardless of his religion.

I actually used to like Campbell Brown until she turned into a screeching lefturd.

Repubs are getting desperate as the polls roll! This is insane and a fear tactic that no one is falling for. blah, blah, blah....

McCain is worthless and his running mate represents what sheer stupidity is all about. Say it ain't so, Joe!

People don't care about honesty, because they want CHANGE. Heck, just look at Clinton. People know he was a kniver before he was elected. You only need a clean background if you are a repub. Dems can be many wrong and bad and evil things, and a liar and womanizer and a Muslim (if he is one) are okay. Just a thought anyway.

It would bother me more if he were a Republican.

Foreign MOnet funding Obama's Campaign...well if that isn;t saying the rest of the world are sick of Americans outtign idots into office then I really Don;t what else does.

I'm surprised if this is indeed the case but then in many exchanges I've come acros it is so blantanly obvious that the (Supposedly) greatest democracy in the world has such low voter turnout and it hasn't occurred (as you would expect) to many that the system is dumbing the average American down and looking at the coming generatiuosn it is more than likely that the rest of us are going to ahve to put up with not very bright people running your country.

That's some scarey shit right there!

anonymous, its really only marxist liberals who give a damn who does and does not like them...and as for our leaders being dumb, that would also be an elitist marxist communist ideal, you know thinking you are smarter than the rest of the world and should tell us what to do. nice comment. pretty scary shit for sure.

Aww c'mon N if you believe that McCAin wouldn't be worrying about what the press wassaying about him...but that's not the case now is it? Or is it?

You're telling the story sunshine

On Topic

this question is a no-brainer. If Obama were Muslim he would not have gotten off the ground. I'll tell you that much for free.

Other than that I cannot get to the root of American hysteria and limited world view. MTV / PSX culture has got a lot to answer for... ha ha ha

anonymous, thanks for calling me sunshine, you know its true! But let me let you in on a secret...it ain't the conservatives watching MTV, a perfectly liberal outlet. It is our "world view" (a term I hate) that separates us from the communist ideals of fascist countries, you know us Reagan Bush types that truly believe in democracy and the american way! VTW, give yourself a name so I know who you are...:)N

oops BTW not VTW...sorry

It's simple N just look at your economy collapsing around you. Just look at all the young lives "wasted" on the selfserving whim of an admin that the right would consider a bunch of "heroes".
The USA has been duped and how? hmmm I think the likes of McCain's recent rally would serve as a good indicator...fox news aside different wage bracket, same wowser mentality.
BTW I know this alll a piss-take as you are just having a laff on this blog!

ok matey, I am sure the media is acting like we are all waiting in lines for bread, but the truth is this...democrats and republicans make up our government. Democrats are the majority in our congress and have been for the past 2 years. Congress directly oversees freddie mac and fannie mae and called republicans racist for trying to reign in the bad loans it was handing out. The people in this country also have a stake in this mess as many were living well beyond their means and getting loans they had no business getting. I could be like the rest of the world who can blame their government for all the bad in their lives, but this is a country of freedom and many are responsible for this crisis, including democrats, republicans and everyday citizens and of course wall street banks. The economy will recover and inflation is under control and hopefully we will all be the wiser. But continue in your communist mentality and blame the all powerful government that rules outside our borders...or the media that lies to make the US look like a feeble country. Don't buy any of it. These may be piss-takes, but there is little dispute of them. I am the right-winged avenger! HA! :)N

I am thinking of changing my name to a "good" catholic name like Thomas or Christopher! Why is it that the right can't just accept the fact that Barack Obama is just an American? Why should we question his religeon? Is being Muslim something to be ashamed of anyway? Now I am not accusing you of this Nikki, but for so many right wing conservatives, it seems that ignorance rules. It is quite scary to believe that grown adults can be so swayed by fear tactics and outright panic mongers. John McCain has pissed off the entire political system because of his inabillity to remain calm and civil in tight situations. His record on this is well documented. To put it nicely, and to quote a conservative pundant he is a "hotheaded prick". That is how his peers view him. Now as for his stance on being a maverick. Aren't Mavericks UNTAMED horses? The very nature of the word is how this man has spent his confused and ever changing political life. He flips at the drop of a hat. You must admit, his demeanor in the final debate was one of an "Asshole". He looked confused, and mad. Not stately at all. His idiotic statements to Joe the plumber were above the top. The first reference was ok but the 23rd was a bit much. I do hope that America resoundfully boots him along with his conservative cronies back to the hole whence they came! As always, thanks Nikki for allowing me to comment.

Mohammedist concepts believe that if papa was a mohammedist - then all the babies are too.

If any of the kids change to, say, Xianity, it is otay for mohammedists to kill them.

Which is where Big O and his religion get kinda strange: If papa O really was a mohammedist and the Big O claims to worship baby Jesus, then where are the fatwahs?

This post doesn't make sense and seems out of character for you. To prove he isn't a Muslim he should have changed his name? How does that make sense? I am not a Christian, should I change my Christian name to prove it? This is ridiculous and no better than the religious right accusing Romney of not being a Christian. Out of all the crazy policies of Obama that irks the right, I find it odd that his "might have been when he was a child" religion is their concern. Do we not remember the liberal media's coverage of Obama's "hate-filled" Christian Church he attended for 20 years? Even if he was at one time a Muslim, is he one now? I guess he is if you only look at his name and not how he lives his life.

Do all Muslims believe in the things radical Muslims do (theocracy, Sharia law, etc)? No. Just like not all Christians believe in the things radical Christians do (theocracy, 6-day creation, etc). If Obama was a Muslim concerned with creating a theocracy, I would be concerned as anyone else. Just as I am concerned with the religious right wanting a theocrat for President. But Obama is neither a Muslim nor a theocrat so his religion, whatever the far-right thinks it is, doesn't bother me.

the man's name is not a muslim name or islamic name. do a little bit of research...Barack has both African and Swahili (with Arabic roots) origins with general definitions of "blessed". Barack is also the Hebrew form of the name Baruch or Beracha, which also mean "blessed," and also Barak, which is a Hebrew name meaning "lightning." [1] A more literal Swahili definition is blessing, prosperity and abundance.[2]

now, if you still have trouble saying the name, it would be much easier to refer to him as, "that one"
