I find this disturbing...It's like watching a battered woman apologize to her abuser. Do I live in Obamastan? Is it me or is our President creepy as hell?

What's creepy about Obama?

How about the way he travels to the Middle East, and gives a speech in which he sucks up to career troublemakers and offers to close the Guananamo Bay prison, without obtaining anything in return? That's creepy.

How about the way Obama in the same speech draws a moral equivalence between the Holocaust, which killed 6 million Jews during WW2, and the suffering of the Palestinian people in "pursuit of a homeland." As if the pursuit in question involved nothing but peaceful means, and as if the suffering is all the fault of Israel's occupation of "Palestinian land". Does this fool know nothing about history? Does he not know what led Israel to occupy land formerly held by Jordan, Egypt, and Syria? From the speech: "[The Palestinian people] endure the daily humiliations ... that come with occupation. So let there be no doubt: the situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable. America will not turn our backs on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for dignity, opportunity, and a state of their own." Does Obama not know that in 2000, Bill Clinton put a huge amount of pressure on Israel, & that Israel was ready to cede the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, & parts of East Jerusalem (theretofore unprecedented concessions) so that a Palestinian state could be created? Does he not know that Yassir Arafat took this offer of a country for his people, told Israel and America to suck eggs, & went home and incited another intefadeh? Is Obama bloody stupid, or is he just blind? If the Palestinians of 2009 have no state of their own, it's because the generous offers made to them in the past have never been enough - the vast majority of Palestinians, including the leaders, want only the disappearance of Israel.

Obama is blind to all this. That's not creepy?

How about Obama's denial of the USA as a Christian nation, despite 250 million Christians in America, but his words to French TV, that "...if you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world", based on fewer than 3 million Muslims in America? Sucking up is not creepy?

I'll concede that Obama made some good points in his speech:
- "Palestinians must abandon violence. Resistance through violence and killing is wrong and does not succeed."
- "I am aware that some question or justify the events of 9/11. But let us be clear: al Qaeda killed nearly 3,000 people on that day. The victims were innocent men, women and children from America and many other nations who had done nothing to harm anybody. And yet Al Qaeda chose to ruthlessly murder these people, claimed credit for the attack, and even now states their determination to kill on a massive scale.... These are not opinions to be debated; these are facts to be dealt with."
- "America is not the crude stereotype of a self-interested empire. The United States has been one of the greatest sources of progress that the world has ever known. We were born out of revolution against an empire."
- "I know that for many, the face of globalization is contradictory. The Internet and television can bring knowledge and information, but also offensive sexuality and mindless violence. Trade can bring new wealth and opportunities, but also huge disruptions and changing communities."

The Muslim world would earn the respect it wants if it reined in its extremists and stopped exporting terrorism and Third World, 7th century social values to the West. The problem is that throughout Obama's speech, the theme was not to lay blame where it should be placed, but to blame the conflict between radical Islam and Western values as the product of mutual misunderstanding and mutual ignorance. Manure! The problem is that many groups (on one side of the divide) export and sponsor terrorism, and these same groups complain when their terrorism gets a military response. Accepting a big portion of the blame for this is wrong. Coming from the president, it is creepy.
